Ballet Class at PS 170

About Our Program...

Students selected to participate in our First and Second Grade Ballet Program attend pull-out classes during the school day once a week throughout the entire school year.  During these sessions they study the basic form and technique of classical ballet as well as the corresponding vocabulary and work hard to develop their skills.  These students perform choreography they’ve learned and rehearsed in class at two showcases each school year for a large audience of parents, classmates, and guests.  Since the program was established in 2001, ballet students from PS 170 have been invited to perform at the Regional Arts Festival at Lehman College and have been accepted to continue their training at a variety of renowned schools in New York City including Ballet Tech, MorganScott Ballet, Bronx Charter School for the Arts, and School of American Ballet (the children’s school of The New York City Ballet).   For more information, please email Ms. Wechter at asloan@ps170x.org

WORDS OF THE WEEK
Hello parents and students!
This year, in addition to sending home our "Ballet Word Baggies" for the students to practice at home,
I will also be posting definitions, photos, and sometimes video here on this site.
Please be sure to practice with your child frequently throughout the week.
In addition to the information posted below, ask them to show you any stretches we have been doing
in class.  These should be practiced every night in order to show improvement.
Thanks and I look forward to helping grow your child's ballet talents!
